St. John is the smallest of the 3 major islands in the USVI. For U.S. citizens, you will not have to pay customs fees. You do not need a passport, but if you have one, bring it- makes it faster getting through the airport. If you do not have a passport, a government-issued photo ID will suffice.
To reach St. John, you fly into St. Thomas, taxi to Red Hook, and take the ferry to St. John. Don't fly into S. Croix (STX) - it's too cumbersome to get here from St. Croix.
The island is about 8 miles long and 3 miles wide. We don't have an airport, traffic light or any franchises. It's like going back in time.
Our beaches are pristine. Most of the island is part of the U.S. National Park and is undeveloped. Please help keep our island beautiful and clean.
The average high during the winter months is 82° with a low of 70°. The average high in the summer months is 88°.
We drive on the left. Greet people with a "good afternoon" and then proceed. Please be covered if your toes are not in the sand.
